Why Is the Z-Probe Not Working on My Genmitsu 3018-PROVer V2?

Quick answer: STOP before tool hits metal.

Safety first: Use the E-stop, unplug spindle/machine power before touching tools, switches or couplers, and keep hands out of axis travel. Never bypass a hard-limit switch to run a cutting job; do not loosen a powered spindle or jog an axis into its physical end.
Model and version covered

Genmitsu 3018-PROVer V2 with GRBL-compatible controller. Check board marking and firmware before applying GRBL commands; the older 3018-PROVer and V2 Lite do not necessarily have identical connectors.

Version check: Confirm controller, GRBL firmware and actual limit/probe connections before changing parameters or running automated motion.

Find the cause and fix it

01

Probe descends without detecting touch

HOW TO CHECK & CORRECT THIS CAUSE
  1. STOP before tool hits metal.
  2. With power safe, check probe plate lead to Probe port, clip to clean conductive bit and that clip/plate are not shorted before contact.
  3. Verify software reports probe input change with deliberate safe contact before starting a downward probing move.
How to tell it is fixed: Z-probe stops immediately when tool touches plate.
02

Probe stops but zero is wrong

HOW TO CHECK & CORRECT THIS CAUSE
  1. Measure actual thickness of YOUR probe plate and enter its verified offset in Candle/probe macro for this setup.
  2. Remove probe plate after setting origin.
How to tell it is fixed: Z0 corresponds to actual work surface on a controlled test.
03

Probe still fails with clean electrical circuit and correct software

HOW TO CHECK & CORRECT THIS CAUSE
  1. Replace damaged probe leads/plate or faulty probe input through V2-matched repair.
  2. Do not let GRBL plunge continue based on guessed offsets.
How to tell it is fixed: Repeated contact detection works at safe height.
